This week for Whiskey Wednesday we’re highlighting St. Petersburg Distillery, from the state where I grew up and first learned to love bourbon, Florida. St. Petersbury Distillery was founded in 2014 with a mission to create – and share – the spirits they want to drink and produces a number of spirits from spiced rum, to vodka, gin, liqueurs, and of course whiskey; all made in traditional copper pot stills.
Instead of bore you with lesser spirits [not that theirs aren’t good, but this is a website about whiskey after all] we’ll head straight to talking about their sweet corn whiskey. Inside of the exquisitely beautiful bottle you’ll find a slightly overproof [44% ABV] young whiskey that’s a blend ofFlorida sweet corn whiskey and an American heartland sweet corn whiskey aged in oak barrels, though no age statement is given. St. Petersburg Distillery’s tasting notes are as follows:
NOSE: A complex aroma of vanilla & sweet-corn sweetness with delicate floral & fruity apple notes plus a hint of smoke
PALATE: A full mouth with the sweetness of rich sweet corn, brown sugar, apples & hints of spices
I haven’t tried any yet but from my friends back in Florida, I’ve heard good things and I’m looking forward to seeing how their spirits stack up at competitions. From their website it doesn’t look like tours are available of the distillery, however their calendar is FULL of tasting events in Tampa and surrounding area’s, so if you want to try before you buy it’s not too difficult. If you’d like to keep up with St. Petersburg Distillery you can give them a follow on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter and if you want to track down a bottle you can visit their stockist directory by clicking here.
