This Old Fashioned Friday we’re trying out a variation on the recipe from the aptly titled book, “The Old Fashioned” by Robert Simonson. Here’s the recipe:
- 2 oz Bourbon [Bulleit]
- 1/4 oz Fernet Branca
- 2 Dashes of Aromatic Bitters [Really Horrible “Cangostura”]
- 1 Sugarcube
- Splash of Water
Soak the sugar cube in the bitters and water and muddle until mostly dissolved. Add the Fernet Branca and bourbon and stir to combine. Add an ice cube and an orange peel garnish [if desired].
At the end of the day, this is an Old Fashioned cocktail with a healthy splash of Fernet Branca, so if you want a bit more of an herbal cocktail without having to go overboard on the bitters, this is a bit easier to swallow.
